The Visalia Sportsmen's Association was founded in the Spring of 1893. It has the distinction of being the oldest group devoted to outdoor sports in the state of California. Those who formed the club were the Who's Who of Visalia's early pioneers, to include: Ira Chrisman Sr., Ben Madox, C.T. Buckman, Abe Murray, and W.E. Wild.

The club has developed and grown throughout the years, but has always taken a leading part in the conservation of Fish and Game, Firearms Safety, Shooting Sports, and Firearm Legislation.
